Women in the Islamic religion have been oppressed by men in their own culture since the founding of the religion by the Prophet Muhammad in 610 AD. To this day, female circumcision , the mistreatment of women and the inability of girls to attend school still occur in Muslim families in both the Middle East and European countries. This oppression and unfair inequalities are exacerbated by Western European countries imposing Burk bans. In Muhammad's time, women had few or no rights, as even the basic right to life was stripped from many young girls who were buried alive in hard times of economic hardship or food scarcity.1 Muhammad believed that under the eyes of God or Allah, men and women were equal beings, as Muhammad himself is said to have said: "You have rights over your women... and your women have rights over you", showing his beliefs about women and men. He is considered by some to be a misogynistic polygamist, despite his controversial facts. Muhammad remarried after the death of his first wife, their marriage having lasted twenty-five years. He later married thirteen wives but treated them with respect. Muhammad performed household chores and helped with household chores such as preparing food, sewing clothes, and repairing shoes. It is also said that he accustomed his wives to dialogue; he listened to their advice and their wives argued and even quarreled with him. The concept of a girl's virginity is a highly prized point within the Islamic religion, as it is sometimes considered the "Cage of Virgins". Islamic men have oppressed Islamic women for centuries, causing discrimination and oppression to this day. . This unfortunate oppression and discrimination continues in European nations as... middle of paper... something that should be forced on anyone, it's a choice. The Quran does not say that a woman should be wrapped in a heavy garment from head to toe, but that both men and women should dress modestly. The burqa ban is a violation of religious freedom, which limits the expression of Muslims in France. Current issues of oppression against women within Muslim culture have existed throughout history and continue in European nations today. To achieve equality among all, we as a humanistic world who are trying to achieve equality must look beyond the veil that is the burka to achieve this equality, so the burqa ban must end, but along with this, then the end the forced use of the burqa must also end. Women must be given the freedom that so many indulge in and allowed to make decisions for them, equality will be achieved.
