Slavery was the initial cause of stereotypes about African Americans. Since the targeted group was African Americans, they were perceived as primal and dangerous, which caused stereotypes about African Americans to begin. An example of this is early films like “Birth of the Nation,” which portrays African Americans as wild and ape-like (Green, Laura). Furthermore, as pop culture influenced people, it became a stereotype as it became the imminent knowledge at the time. The same thing happened to immigrants.
