In today's society, intelligence quotient is still very important. What is intelligence? In the dictionary it defines the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. In my family, adults always compare all children smarter. Sometimes they judge people with a simple test. For example, once my cousin who scored the highest English test in his school, all my aunts and uncles including my parents think he is the smartest person in the family. Can a simple intelligence test tell you how smart you are? I think the answer will be unknown because some tests can help people, but others can't. Most people like to take different intelligence tests. People still believe that a person with a higher IQ must be intelligent. People can take many intelligence tests online, but they only care about the score they can get. If the score is low, they will think that the test is not accurate, however, when the score is high, they will believe that the test is really testing their IQ. I think the more important question is how we measure intelligence to help people understand what we are capable of. Now I will provide a brief history of intelligence tests, what are some positive and negative aspects of intelligence tests and the correct and improper ways to use them. Many countries designed their own intelligence tests quickly. In ancient China, about 4,000 years ago, the Chinese held a test every three years to demonstrate their competence and ability to do work for the government. Alfred Binet, who is a French psychologist, successfully developed the first intelligence test to predict future academic success. During World War I, the U.S. Army used intelligence tests to evaluate and assign data…halfway through the task…focus more on the highest scoring students. Sometimes parents lose faith once they hear they put their child in the low-scoring class. Some of the highest scoring students become arrogant; they don't work hard and it's easy to give up. At first, IQ seems mostly genetic, like if your parents were smart, then you will be smart. For example, I always heard my mother say that my cousin will be successful because his father is very intelligent. Now, I think the environment has a strong influence. Intelligence test scores can be improved by studying hard. I've always heard that 1% genius and 99% hard work can make you successful. IQ tests are limited. People should focus on what they are truly capable of. People have innate abilities and cannot discover them in an intelligence test. A high test score does not mean you are smart compared to other people.
