Topic > The use of setting in Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken"

Reiterating the point made earlier, "To ET" is a requiem in memory of Frost's dear friend, Edward Thomas, and therefore the purpose of poetry is clear ahead, to remember a fallen friend. While “The Road not Taken” is a less personal poem and describes the choices that human beings have to make in society. You could take the same path as the majority or find a path that is not necessarily easy to follow but which can lead to great results (Lenticchia). Frost himself references his own life in this poem, the path less traveled is living the life of a poem. In a different way, “Stopping by woods on a Snowy Evening” is a poem about human struggle. It may be easier to stop life's journey early and rest, but he who has the strength will persevere through life's ups and downs - "and the miles to go before I sleep".”
