This passage describes as if White longs to relive the sacred summer that he still holds dear, but something is still missing. Another example of tone exemplified is peace: “It seemed like an absolutely enchanted sea, this lake that you could leave to itself for a few hours and return, and find that it hadn't moved, this constant, reliable body of water.” This passage sets the tone completely. While White describes how the lake is reliable and persistent, he portrays the idea that the memories he once experienced remain unchanged. The change in tone helps connect both positive and negative emotions
