This type of theory is more concrete in nature. They are developed with the aim of explaining, predicting and answering questions regarding nursing care. The concepts addressed often cross over from one field of nursing to another. (Meleis, 2012, ch. 3) I would argue that middle-range nursing theories are more applicable to the role of the clinical nurse in today's healthcare system. The driving force behind healthcare reform and best care practices is evidence-based research. Middle-range theories are designed less abstract than grand theories and are more easily tested and observed in clinical settings.
