Reflection I have been attending Virginia State University for a semester now and since arriving here I have learned more than I ever imagined possible. Since I've taken an English class every year in my life since the age of five, I thought I knew exactly what to expect. I was definitely wrong. When I started attending Virginia State University, I thought that all of my English classes would just consist of reading, discussing, and then writing about “Old English.” Since this was the purpose of all my English classes in high school, I didn't think there would be much of a difference at Virginia State University. I quickly discovered there was much more. With just one nearly complete semester of English classes at Virginia State University, they successfully showed me much more than just the English language; they showed me how to be myself. Taking a look at my previous essays that I wrote in high school before coming to Virginia State University, I am now very aware of how much my ability to write, reveal my thoughts, ideas and intelligence has become stronger in this course. Here at Virginia State University I have learned how to write, how to be myself, how to think for myself, and how to identify solutions to problems for which I have no answers. I learned how vital the English language is to everyday life. There is never a second that goes by without me reflecting on something, but having enrolled in my first English course at Virginia State University, I am very proud to report that my critical analysis skills have significantly increased as a result. Instead of focusing on a proposed purpose, I figured out how to constantly ask myself “why.” Now I really allow myself to investigate the work of an author as acu... in the center of the paper... emmelo. The first English course I took at Virginia State University actually helped me remove that horrible impulse and write an essay worth writing with improved ideas and additional support. I was taught how to write numerous styles of essays in many different arrangements. My writing has really improved in this writing course. This course slowly taught me and is still teaching me not to write like I'm still in high school. I don't make as many grammatical errors as I used to. I became a better proofreader. I learned a process for creating a thesis statement that, unlike my other methods, actually worked. I also learned a lot about the mechanics of writing. But there are some things that I believe I desire with fortitude and ability to achieve, and that is what I believe I will acquire by continuing at Virginia State University.
