Functionalists believe that we inherit social position because of who we are related to. We can also have a social reputation thanks to our siblings and parents. For example, an individual born into a Hispanic culture, with parents who are working class, is given the status of Hispanic and poor. The role this has on society helps in the stratification of society. The family into which the child is born also has the same resources as the parents.
