On the one hand the slaves were free, on the other they did not have equal rights and were discriminated against due to the color of their skin. In other words, reconstruction was a mixed success, combining both positive and negative impacts. At the end of the era, the North and South were once again reunited, and all Southern state legislatures had abolished slavery in their constitutions. However, in some ways, Reconstruction was a failure because blacks were not guaranteed equal rights and opportunities. Racism and segregation are far from over. On the other hand, a huge change occurred in the country as the United States was completely in a state of chaos during the civil war. Despite some obstacles, it can be concluded that Reconstruction was somewhat beneficial to African Americans.
