Education continues to be the priority of all nations of the world. Most countries dedicate significant resources to ensuring equal educational opportunities for all their students. Most education systems are developed to meet the economic and social needs of the country, both locally and globally. Saudi Arabia, the eighth country in the world in spending on education, is launching an overhaul of its education system. It is the largest country in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia's education has undergone an astonishing transformation. Initially, education was accessible only to a few people who were children of wealthy families. However, the transformation of the Saudi education system now offers education to all children, regardless of their social status. The education system is open to all citizens and provides free education, educational and healthcare facilities to all. Education in Saudi Arabia has 5 levels; the primary, intermediate, secondary, professional and tertiary levels. The education system begins with pre-primary education offered to students entering primary school. However, there are options for preschool which are; nursery and pre-school. These two are offered by private and international schools. Children enrolling in preschool, nursery or kindergarten should be over 3 years old. Then there is primary education where a child enrolls at the age of six, up to grade six where children should be around 11 years old. However, there are schools that offer childcare until 5pm for working mothers. According to Mackey (89), primary education in Saudi Arabia is free and open to all.
