Hurricanes are the most destructive natural disaster known to man. They are very powerful and violent thunderstorms, associated mainly with strong winds and heavy rain. A storm is classified as a hurricane when wind speeds reach seventy-four miles per hour. They usually begin to rise over warm seas, near the equator, and are accompanied by violent winds, flash floods, mudslides and huge waves. The cause of all this has to do with two fundamental ingredients: hot air and water. Once these natural disasters occur, they not only affect physical parts of the world, but also the economy. There are two main factors responsible for causing hurricane storms: warm water and warm, moist air, as mentioned above. Hurricanes occur when warm, moist air from the ocean's surface rises and meets cooler air above. In this situation, warm, moist air condenses and forms storm clouds and raindrops. Also in the cycle, warmer air from the ocean surface rises and joins the developing storm. As a result, heat transfer occurs from the ocean surface t...
