The personality and character of a president are determining factors of a president's policies and ideas. Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was one of the greatest and most influential presidents there ever was. Theodore Roosevelt made America a stronger and more powerful nation through all of his careers and accomplishments in his lifetime. Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858 in Manhattan, New York. His parents were Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Bulloch Roosevelt. As Teddy grew up, he learned to love the outdoors and exercise. In his early childhood he took part in many activities such as story time, reading and hunting. Teddy did not come from a poor family at all, Teddy was home-schooled by private teachers and made many trips to Europe and the Middle East. Teddy later continued his education at Harvard University in 1876, where he studied many subjects such as German, history, zoology, forensics and writing. Since he had many interests, this helped him become a well-rounded individual and not just a one-minded man. During his time at Harvard Teddy met his future wife Alice Hathaway Lee and they married in 1880. After marrying Alice he decided to go to school at Columbia to study law. However, after a year he decided to drop out to study political science. Teddy was then elected to the New York Assembly and served from 1882 to 1884. After serving in the assembly a tragedy occurred. Both his wife and mother died within a couple of hours of each other. After his tragic losses he moved west to become a rancher to try to recover from both losses. Two years later, in 1886, he returned to New York and found his next wife, Edith Kermit Carow, with whom he raised six children, including that of his former... middle of paper... destined to help by doing whatever can. Then, Teddy offered to organize a volunteer division, but the War Department refused. Teddy decided to raise awareness and bring people home to America to get involved in the war efforts. Theodore Roosevelt died in his sleep on January 6, 1919, at his beloved home on Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay, New York. Bottom line, Teddy Roosevelt in my book is the greatest president to ever sit in the White House. He accomplished so many things and helped move America forward in the right direction. He won the Nobel Peace Prize, accomplished one of the world's greatest procreative feats, and cared not only for people, but also for the land we Americans live on. Without Teddy, who knows where America would be. No one will ever know, but I guarantee you that we Americans would not be as well off as we are now.
