At this hearing the arguments for each side paralleled the previous ones. The decision was made the following year, on January 22, 1973. The court held a vote of 7 to 2, and the majority sided with the plaintiff. Of the 9 justices, 7 held that the Constitution implied a right to privacy above the laws of the natural state, consistent with the choice of abortion. Of the 9, the dissenting opinion was that of Rhinequist and White, who held that nowhere in the Constitution does this imply a woman's right to privacy in connection with the right to abortion. The decision taken by the court had impacted women's rights movements across the country. Abortion clinics like Planned Parenthood saw the verdict as a big step forward from before. This single case also led to many similar cases coming before the Supreme Court for many years
