Music and Poetry as an Art of Emotions Poetry is a diverse form of communication and there are a wide range of elements that make up this truly unique and specialized form of writing. Poetry is the art of apprehending and interpreting ideas through the faculty of imagination; the art of idealizing in thought and expression. "Because poetry is the flower and fragrance of all human knowledge, of human thoughts, of human passions, of emotions, of language." (Coleridge) Like poetry, music is a way for the author to release new struggles that can be released by no other means than verse. It is said that music is the speech of angels. It has the beauty of solitude, the pain of strength and freedom, disappointment and never satisfied love. Music is verbal poetry. It includes many emotions, feelings and desires and often represents anger, love, happiness, pain and despair. "Music is your experience, your thoughts, your wisdom. They teach you that there is a line for music. But, man, there is no line for art." (Parker) Music is an art form. It allows a human being to take all the dry, technically boring but difficult techniques and use them to create and simplify emotions. Plato once said: "Musical education is sovereign because more than anything else rhythm and harmony reach the deepest soul and grasp it strongest." Music is something that science cannot duplicate: humanism, feeling and emotion. Jim Morrison, an American rock legend, was often thought of as just a drunken musician and was also described by many as a drug addict and another "junkie" rock star. These negative opinions cast a great shadow on the many positive aspects of this great poet. Many famous authors heavily influenced Jim's music and transformed his music into poetry. Behind these prejudicial defects of Jim Morrison and other poets, one sees a very intellectual poetry. For example, he integrated the thoughts of philosophers into his own unique thought and expanded their views into his own. In his poem "Car Cemetery", Jim Morrison says that everything that is dead becomes new again in its own environment. The night is the environment and the cemetery keeper is truly the protector of the memories of the deceased. Those who follow, who are children, scoff at what they don't understand.
