The third version/style of hell the characters are placed in is MAN versus OTHER MAN'S THOUGHTS, which is basically letting other people think about how a person manages their own life. In this quote from Méra, "They are 'naked as babies' and must suffer to be seen by others as they really are", he is saying that a person must show others who he really is and cannot pretend to 'put on make-up' and show them what they want to see (Méra 15). For example, if a person is a murderer, he will have to show people that he is a murderer and he cannot hide it with "makeup" and show them that he is an innocent person just because he doesn't want to deal with the consequences. In this quote from Guicharnaud, "The acts belong to the past and the characters try to evaluate them, the emphasis is not placed on discovering why, through which determinism of the world and of men, the characters committed their crimes", explains Guicharnaud. that the characters have to live with their choices and face the consequences of their choices just like Méra's last quote (Guicharnaud 63).
