Have you ever wondered what magic is? Have you ever believed it really existed? “Could this be real?” you ask yourself. Well, maybe it was only gifted to one person at a time or even a group of people. To be honest, we'll probably never know. But there was one boy who became a man who truly had a touch of magic on his side. His name was Walt Disney and his story begins in the town of Marceline. Elias and Flora Disney, Walt's parents, collected all his things in Chicago and moved to Marceline. (Greene, age 7) His father purchased a 100-acre farm to protect his children from the sin-filled streets of Chicago. Walt was born the fourth of five children on December 5, 1901. (Greene, 7) Walt loved farm life, especially because he almost never had to do any work on the farm. (Greene, age 7) The farm is where he saw his family truly gifted at teamwork. (Greene, 7) Since it was a family farm, Walt's brothers Raymond and Herbert worked for free but eventually left. (Greene, 10-12) When they left, Elias' dream of a farm slowly faded and he sold it for $5,175. (Greene, 10-12) Walt was excited about the move because it meant a new adventure full of excitement. (Greene, 10-12) In the summer of 1911 the Disney family moved to Kansas City. Elias took the money from the farm and invested it in a paper route, where Walt started his first job. (Greene, age 13) When Walt started school, he was held back in one classroom and was the second dumbest kid in his class. (Greene, age 13) His mother never allowed him to feel sorry for himself. (Greene, 13) Flora Disney always kept the family together even when things were at their worst. (Greene, 13) Walt inherited superiority and enthusiasm from his father, but from his mother the ability to laugh and joke... middle of paper... to live a long life, but his life was slowly fading. (Greene, 163) Roy wanted to retire but Walt "always talked him out of it." (Greene, 163) Walt never saw New Year's Eve in the year 1967. (Greene, 163) Walt Disney's death impacted so many people in so many ways. (Greene, 170) The impact of Walt's death was so great that people talked about him as if he were still alive. (Greene, 173) People who never knew Walt spoke as if they knew who he was. (Greene, 173) There is an urban legend about Disney's death, but they are all false. (Krasniewicz, 17) So if there was anyone who had a touch of magic on his side, it really was Walt Disney. His life impacted the lives of many and his death impacted many others. Walt also had an impact on my life, he taught me to never give up. He is a legend who will never die because his legacy lives on through us. The magic man named Walt Disney.
