Challenge in Public High Schools Current public high school curricula are simply too easy. Students are able to take too many easy lessons that don't challenge them. This is the first point to focus on when trying to solve this problem. Within this cause, there are many different solutions. However, I don't have time here to name them all. I will focus on one particular recommendation that I believe will be of great help. What could be wrong with the current public high school curriculum. Students attend 4 years of high school and receive a well-rounded education. This education allows students to function as valuable members of society without necessarily continuing their education beyond high school. What could be wrong with all this? Well, what about students who choose to continue their education after high school? Does high school prepare students well? According to statistics the answer is no. ACT, a nonprofit organization that collects statistics and conducts research in education, states that “31% of students seeking a BA/BS degree at a public college drop out by the end of the second semester. Currently, many public high schools allow students to select their own classes, and in turn, some students enroll in classes far below their intellectual capabilities. Major problems lie ahead if students decide to attend post-secondary schools.Students should be assessed when they enter standardized tests be given to help determine which course of study would be best for a particular student to follow during his or her four-year school career. into which students will be classified. For example, a school might choose to have an advanced path, an intermediate path and a remedial path. Some might say that this will limit students too much in choosing lessons, but this is not the case: it will simply give students students a number of lessons choose from. For example, advanced study students will still have all the different choices they had before; they will simply be geared towards smarter students. The same will be true for those following remedial study, however the aim of these lessons will be to get students where they should be.
