Introduction42% of STEM degrees are awarded to women. 46.9% of the workforce is made up of women, and 23% of women make up the STEM task force. What does it mean then? This means that 77% of the STEM task force is made up of men, but 42%, almost half, of STEM degrees are awarded to women. So the question is: why is there a shortage of women in STEM fields? And what is happening to all the women with STEM degrees? The literature has many opinions on this topic, and while all are valid opinions and facts, this literature review will address the sub-questions of “How does education impact the shortage of women in STEM?” and “How do gender biases impact the shortage of women in STEM?” The way these questions were addressed was through the overview and analysis of multiple articles. One of these articles is from the University of Delaware, titled “Gender Bias, Sterotypes, and STEM,” and their opinion on the matter was that women leave STEM because of gender biases and stereotypes also stated Science News this article was Kenneth Corbin, and compared to Science New and the University of Deleware said that “Early STEM education will bring more women into IT.” Literature Review According to Science News is that gender biases push women from STEM, not family. This article talks about how gender barriers, such as stereotypes, push women to abandon STEM disciplines and then quickly abandon it how women had children and then left STEM, soon moving into non-STEM related work. Another problem was that many women also left STEM fields before having children. So in conclusion, women are being pushed away from STEM subjects and beyond… middle of the paper… ginneering. And the final question these authors thought of was “Why should we do anything about it?” Ultimately, to find these answers, these two authors had to think in a deeper context that did not include the Internet. But in the end these Authors discovered that this is the awenser. People should do something about it because one day a girl may discover the cure for a major disease, virus, syndrome or genetic disorder. Another reason found is that people should do something about this problem because all people deserve the opportunity to pursue their interests. And if people could help others achieve these personal goals, it would create a much happier and more peaceful world. And the final opinion on this topic is that people should do something about girls in STEM fields because girls are academically equal to boys in STEM fields. Conclusion
