One character in particular in William Shakespeare's Hamlet is very intelligent. One of the reasons Hamlet is so smart is because Hamlet doesn't kill Claudius right away, but waits until he sins. Secondly because he deceives Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, saving himself. Finally, because he makes sure that Claudius is guilty of old Hamlet's death by staging a play about his father's death. Obviously Hamlet is the smartest character in Hamlet. Hamlet is the smartest because he knows not to kill Claudius right away because he is praying, and instead waits until he sins. Hamlet does not let Claudius know he is there, but gives examples of a better time to kill Claudius, "When he is drunk in his sleep or in his anger" (III. iii.90). This quote lets us know that Hamlet will not let Claudius know he is there, which is a smart move on Hamlet's part because it keeps the element of surprise. Also because Hamlet lists ways he could kill Claudius, this shows his intelligence because he is thinking things through and coming up with plans; he's not just going on a whim. Hamlet is about to kill Claudius when he changes his mind: “Nay, come, sword; and know that you are more horrible" (III. iii. 88-9) This shows Hamlet's intelligence because he knows that if he kills him, Claudius will go to heaven, also if he lets him die now Claudius won't have to deal with his own guilt. This is just one example of Hamlet's genius.Another thing Hamlet does to show that he is the wittiest character in the play, Hamlet deceives Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and walks away from the situation, and therefore his own death Hamlet explains to Horatio how he avoided the k... middle of paper... mission at hand Hamlet also tells the actors: “Nor saw too much the air with your hand” (III. ii. 4-5). ) This and other explanations are smart to give to the actors because it helps them know how they should present themselves, making the play seem more real, so they have a better chance of getting a reaction from Claudius. Overall Hamlet is a rather insightful character. In the play Hamlet, the main character Hamlet is the brightest for numerous reasons. First, Hamlet does not kill Claudius right away, but instead waits for a better time. He also tricks Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and escapes death. Finally because he ensures that Claudio is guilty by having the actors stage a play about his father's death and then by making Horace measure Claudio's guilt. Because of these facts, Hamlet is by far the smartest character in Hamlet.
