Today, millions of people around the world are affected by HIV/AIDS; some of whom were contracted unknowingly through heterosexual sexual contact, others unknowingly through homosexual contact, and surprisingly, some chose to contract HIV/AIDS on purpose. Bareback sex refers to intercourse without the use of barrier protection to prevent the transmission of bodily fluids between participants. This is high-risk behavior given the number of STDs and not knowing the HIV status in them or their partners. Unfortunately, in some developing countries the technology and supply of condoms are very low compared to the sexually active population, thus resulting in more cases of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS. In the gay community, a group of sexual deviants labeled "bug hunters," which describes openly HIV-negative gay men who have unprotected sex with HIV-positive gay men in an attempt to contract HIV/AIDS, thrive and they gain momentum every day. “Bug hunters” and those who engage in condomless sex do it for a variety of reasons, but each individual seems to have their own reasoning as to why they like it. The majority of men and women believe that condoms take away the natural sensation of sex and that bare support allows partners to be more intimate. They believe that being more “intimate” with a sexual partner means a greater level of trust and communication between them. As for the “bug hunters”, many of these men want to contract HIV so they don't have to worry about whether they are positive or not. There is also a group of gay men determined to join the "Elite Gay Society", which believes in special meetings for HIV-positive men to engage in unprotected sex with each other in orgies and more... middle of paper... . ..if condoms in brothels. I believe this would be very effective in the United States because it assumes that most people are sexually active and promotes the use of safe sex. The teaching materials used in the Ugandan as well as the British presentations were very explicit; not only did they describe exactly what would happen to people, but they also showed genuine images of how it affects the body and genitals. Unfortunately in America, politicians assume that this type of approach is too explicit and is not palatable to the majority of the (Christian) population. For some reason they are also very strict in believing that most people wait until they are married to become sexually active and be monogamous in all their relationships. They are essentially blind to the way the country works because it is not the way they want it to work.
