It showed how they had to live in fear, not knowing if they will live or die. This applies especially to the Tutsi population, but the Hutus have also been affected. One reason is that some had to kill even if they didn't want to. They both had to see, smell and hear the killing of people everywhere. Or risk your life by sheltering people during the hundred days of massacre. One man who did this was Paul Rusesabagina. Paul risked his life to save the Tutsis while on the bus with them. A guard gave him a gun and told him to shoot the cockroaches (the Tutsis on the bus). Paul thought killing was unacceptable even though he could have died because he rejected what the guard told him. Paul had to spend his money and bribe the guard and this would continue for a while. Rusesabagina allegedly used money or alcohol to bribe Hutu soldiers and militia to stay outside his gates. Soon everyone had to flee the hotel. Paul and his family had to go to a refugee camp. They soon learned that many members of their family had died, including his wife Tatiana's father. Paul will have to live with the deaths of his close relatives forever. Paul and Tatiana had to adopt their nieces and take care of them because they were orphaned during the
