As Harris' depression continued to grow, the young man began to think about causing harm to others and even made a post on an online blog about wishing he could kill for the fun of it to do it. Harris has always had an interest in tragic events and would even look at old accounts of events like the Oklahoma City bombing and the University of Texas massacre. With his depression beginning to spiral out of control, the young man began to think more about the harm he might cause to students who would make him feel outcast, and decided he wanted to try to copy the Oklahoma City bombing by eliminating his school.
