Throughout the history of American literature, there has been an ongoing debate about whether or not certain types of books should be accepted. Many great literary works were censored for specific reasons regarding highly sensitive issues of society. The themes of religion, class distinction, alienation and race were not acceptable to be vividly depicted by the authors of the books. While most of those censored books still contained a truthful, first-hand account of events during that particular time period, due to their atypical subject matter, the books, including Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, were fired. .Of Mice and Men is considered one of John Steinbeck's most famous masterpieces. This novella depicts a complicated but powerful brotherhood between George Milton and Lennie Small while explaining a tragic consequence of their untouchable dream. As the story progresses, Steinbeck tries to convey his ideas about the harsh reality of migrant workers while revealing his disturbing themes about human nature. Thus, Of Mice and Men paints John Steinbeck's vision of a lonely and arduous world, reflecting the author's biographical aspects and historical events that occurred during his time. The tired and lonely sojourns of the worker are shown in this book. This piece is also an important historical account describing the famous events that occurred during Steinbeck's time: the Dust Bowl and the Wall Street Crash. Additionally, he talks about how his characters began to develop their American dreams just like other people did during that time period. Throughout his narrative, Steinbeck reflects several major turning points of his time period. Recording these events in......middle of paper......raw representation of society. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, it is criticized because the characters depict social distinctions between races and the novel uses detailed imagery of violence to convey its themes. As for Of Mice and Men, it is refuted for its vulgarity. The most controversial theory comes from the novel's epilogue, where George decided to kill Lennie to ease his further suffering. I believe every author has the right to include a truthful account. No one can stop authors from publishing their works just because their books portray and touch on some of those sensitive and forbidden topics in history. Banned books are the most authentic and honest works of art. We should find a place to stop being ridiculous and accept art as it is. Therefore, book censorship is a violation of human rights.
