Topic > Pop culture as an expression of society - 643

Pop culture is the modern lifestyle supported and recognized by society, the common cultural patterns within a population. The general opinion is that pop culture is a useful expression of the prevailing society and environment, since pop culture is the culture followed by the majority and therefore reflects society. A society's pop culture is influenced by many aspects of society such as music, movies, and modern technology. Modern songs and films promote ideas about drinking, smoking and clubbing, as well as the use of scary language. These are heard and seen by teenagers in society, who then feel that it is acceptable for them to get drunk and do what they know they shouldn't do. An example of this is the 2009 film The Hangover, which, according to personal research, was seen by 84.6% of teenagers. Pop culture has insinuated that for a film to be comedic, it must include alcohol, sex, and foul language. Pop culture's effects on teenagers aren't all bad. It has become popular to include some form of sport in films. It is popular to support a football team, such as “Manchester United”, which is no longer just a football team. Speaking to Manchester United fans, it has become evident that for them Manchester United is their life and they have a total obsession with any Manchester United merchandise. This pushes teenagers to play sports, which allows them to have fun with friends in a healthy way. This is proof that pop culture has an effect on the youth of society. Although trends generally come and go very quickly, there are always those few who will stick around forever and eventually...... middle of paper......wanted. These plays and poems have now been absorbed into education and have become the epitome of traditional culture. There are very few schools that do not use a Shakespeare play as part of their studied scenography. To this day, Shakespeare's plays are staged, and modern versions of his plays have been made into films. It can therefore be concluded that pop culture has a significant influence on society in various ways. Even though modern trends will continue to change, there will always be some trends from each generation that will never fade. These are the trends that will impact society forever.
