Eating a healthy diet can help prevent some long-term chronic conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and can reduce the risk of developing some cancers. Nutrition information offers a public health tool that could be used to promote informed consumer choices and encourage the consumption of a healthy diet. However, millions of women choose to take nutritional supplements to maintain good health, alleviate diseases and counteract aging. Supplements are also used as medications in women with reduced iron reserves due to menstruation and pregnancy (Anderson & Fitzgerald, 2010). The main aim of the research project is to explore the motivations surrounding the use of nutritional information among young women and link this information to the choice to use supplements. This is important for women's health and the topic of nutrition since a large amount of money is spent on both food and supplements. When breastfeeding patients with a wide range of different conditions, nutrition is the foundation of all treatment. It also reduces mortality, relapses and subsequent hospital admissions. The complexity of this subjective person and objective body aligned philosophically as interpretivism and positivism respectively reinforces the importance of both qualitative and quantitative approaches contributing to understanding this (Gerrish and Lacey 2006). Nutrition is also crucial in health and social care policy from a financial perspective, through reducing readmissions which will reduce costs to practice as obesity and poor nutrition cost the NHS billions of pounds every year (Department of Health, 2013). The literature review and research process both use Appendix A and Appendix B to understand how to choose the research topic and plan the research. The researcher must share a clear account of the methods, data collection, and analysis used in the study. In conclusion, the potential practical implications of the proposed research are that supplements are being used as a substitute for a healthy diet in today's society due to a lack of understanding of food labels. Investigate what the health impacts of this are, if any, and further training on food labeling may be required. The benefit of this understanding for the National Health Service is the possible reduction of chronic nutrition-related conditions. However, the gap between theory and practice can only be eliminated by implementing evidence like this study into practice. To implement this study into practice, the researcher will need to understand, identify and overcome barriers to change (NICE, 2007).
