I remember those Friday nights in high school when I went to football games. Hearing the fans roaring in the crowd and the cheerleaders cheering for their team on the sidelines. While eating nachos from the stands, I enjoy the halftime show performed by the dance team and marching band. The best part is winning the game, celebrating with your friends, and before the night is over, hearing your school's fight song playing in the background. I don't know about you, but these were my favorite events to attend during high school. I especially liked the sound of the music played by the marching band I was a part of. No one really takes into consideration a school's marching band and how nice they are. Mauricio, being a freshman who was just placed in a random band class and having no knowledge of how to play any type of instrument, is now a close friend who has had a change of heart regarding his views on marching band. Many may say, including himself, that he was simply a “kid in a group of boys” as he called his friends, always one to get into trouble for the most childish things, but when he joined this beautiful art he knew " find structure and balance [his] life” and “find his love for music.” Joining a band can impact someone's life no matter what circumstances you find yourself in, it helps you discover who you are as a person and gives you the confidence to get back up after a fall. Mauricio has overcome his obstacles and his so-called “friends” who previously judged him for being part of the “lame” marching band, now hail him for not only being able to play two instruments, but also for broadening his horizons for playing all Many different guys would also say, “The whole band [becomes] your family,” like my friend, more like sister Jocelyn. He also didn't know he was in marching band, but he had been playing the clarinet for a while, so he had an idea of what band class was like. Yes, she talked to the kids in band class and just followed the lesson, because it was on her schedule in middle school, but by the time she got to high school she was preparing for a revival. Not bad, of course, but marching band was very different than just a band lesson. He didn't know how close you could get to a bandmate, or too many bandmates. He saw himself going to upperclassmen every day seeking help or helping them; everyone sooner or later manages to feel comfortable with each other within the entire band. “Even once our senior band members graduate, [we will always have] a bond, even if we are [far] apart from each other, they will always be there to help.” Knowing that the younger members of our band have this mentality of not forgetting their graduating teammates touches my heart. I had honestly never felt so supported or loved when I became a part of something so special and unique. Everyone in the organization is kind-hearted, dedicated and supportive, you never can
