Final exam: Topic n. 1 Fiction and creative nonfiction are very similar, but they have some differences that can define what type of work is considered fiction or creative nonfiction. Focus on fiction; Fiction is a style of writing that consists of a plot, a character, and a setting. Fictions are works that are normally intended to be invented or imaginary. It requires direction and purpose that generates a story that amazes the reader with how it came about. This type of writing allows both writers and readers to escape the real world and visit a dream land, it entertains readers rather than informs them. Creative Nonfiction is a fact-based story that informs readers in a skillful way. The creativity in creative nonfiction lies in the arrangement of words, sentences, and paragraphs. This type of writing is not entirely true, the writer can inform the reader by giving him enough background so that he knows the circumstances of the story. Every piece of creative writing has a theme, and the story and information are connected to the theme. The theme of the story is the writer's message that provides readers with a significant point, which the reader can walk away with. To start, an example of a work of fiction would be “A Rose For Emily” by William Faulkner. William Faulkner this bizarre fictional story in which a woman named Emily who lived in the southern town of Jefferson, refuses to pay her taxes, falls in love with Homer, and later in the story Homer pays more attention to men than Emily, and Emily kills Homer. Emily has that feeling where "If I can't have it, no one can." This work is full of fiction, the story has one character (Emily), Emily's plot did not evolve with the rest... .. middle of paper ......teach readers something they can walk away with , which is why it is considered a work of creative nonfiction. To summarize, fiction and creative nonfiction are similar as both are empowered to use literary elements of the story. However, there is a boundary where they differ, fiction is completely imaginative, it is not real, it is just a work that entertains readers. “A Rose For Emily” was made to entertain readers in the Southern Gothic style, as Homer Barron was found to be. Creative nonfiction may not be completely true, but it is mostly based on facts and teaches readers about the writer's theme, giving readers something new learned and being able to take it away. It's true how gender equality and unsafe working conditions were viewed in that time period, but the writer's theme can give readers inspiration to change society today..
