He wanted to have equal rights for all and equal pay for men and women. Lucy Stone made it clear that she would be very different from most women of her time. She went to Oberlin College in Ohio, the only college that accepted blacks and women at that time. While at Oberlin she began her lifelong career fighting for blacks and women. It all started when she worked in college as a student teacher. School policy was that women had to do twice as much work to be paid the same as men.
