Life on a farm revolves around two general areas of work, the first is field work and the second is work on the farm. Women typically stayed on the farm and did the work there, typically this involved looking after the cows, chickens, etc. And little children (Sugar Creek 118). The reason for this was the need for children to help on the farm, as women have many children and spend a lot of time pregnant (Sugar Creek 118). Men on the other hand were typically in the fields and went out into the community while women stayed at home (Sugar Creek 118). This led to women being stuck at home working while men were out tending the fields or helping the community. So obviously men would have more connections in the community and the more connections you have in a community the greater your influence
