Man needs civilization to control his wild side. William Golding evokes this theme in his famous novel, Lord of the Flies. At first glance, Lord of the Flies may seem like a simple adventure novel about a group of boys abandoned on a desert island. However, if you think more carefully about the novel, you understand that this book is also an attempt to associate the annihilation of civilization with the defects of human nature. Civilization is a social order that promotes cultural creation. Four main elements constitute it: economic provision, political organization, moral traditions, and the pursuit of knowledge. In chapter 5 (The Beast in the Air) of Lord of the Flies, Ralph, the protagonist, tries to make the other boys understand that the main problem they all face is the boys' phobia for the mythical beast. This symbolizes his attempt to recreate civilization so that civilization begins where chaos and insecurity ends. This is due to the fact that when fear is overcome, curiosity and constructiveness are free, and man passes by natural impulse towards understanding and embellishment of life. Throughout the novel, Golding symbolizes different aspects of civilization through characters and objects. For example, Ralph represents the order of civilization and the need for leadership. Piggy represents man's ability to reason logically, and both Ralph and Piggy represent humanity's struggle for order and democracy. Sam and Eric, twins joined at the hip, who always do everything together, represent the unity and alliance of man. The conch found at the beginning of Ralph and Piggy's Lord of the Flies represents rules, democracy and order: the basis of a civilization. Barbarism or barbarism... middle of the paper... end of the novel in chapter 11 (Castle Rock). Civilization is necessary for humanity so that man can avoid turning into a savage. Civilization is essential to the human race. It provides a better quality of life and prevents man's wild side from emerging. Savagery causes humanity's development to regress. It also brings out negative feelings such as animosity, greed and insatiability, which create disharmony in communities and are disastrous for humanity. The rules and order provided by civilization prevent this from happening and promote harmony within communities. Above all, savages are unable to govern themselves, demonstrating that rules and order, civilization, are necessary for man to avoid becoming a savage. Civilization is the basis for the development of humanity. The future of humanity is civilization.
