"The Americans With Disabilities Act is one of the most significant laws in American history. The preamble to the law states that it covers 43,000,000 Americans." (Frierson, p.3) Before After the passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), employers could deny employment to a disabled worker, simply because he or she was disabled. For no reason other than the person's physical disability, they were removed or fired from their jobs. The Americans With Disabilities Act prevented this type of discrimination by establishing rules and regulations designed to protect people with physical disabilities. With a workforce of 43,000,000 people, it is impossible to ignore the impact of these people. The Americans With Disabilities Act has not only opened the door for millions of Americans to reenter the workforce, but is paving the way for new workplace structures, new training programs, and job creation designed to a disabled society. The Disabilities Act represents the most important precedent in the fight against any discrimination against people with disabilities. In this article I will provide a brief description of the statutes established by the Americans With Disabilities Act, relating to disabilities in the workplace. I will then discuss what employers are required to do under the ADA and some regulations they must adhere to. The next section of this document will discuss the effective training of employees with disabilities with a focus on training programs for workers with physical and mobility disabilities. The following section of this document will discuss the economic effects of a vocational rehabilitation program. Finally, this article will conclude with a brief discussion of what the provisions established by the Americans With Disabilities Act mean for real workers and the people who benefit from them. The Americans With Disabilities ActThe Americans With Disabilities Act has a section dedicated solely to employers' practices regarding the treatment of applicants and staff based on their physical conditions or any health problems they may have. Technology, persistence and understanding make it all happen who has had a disability takes control of his life. That person is no longer, he hides in the shadows, he is out, he contributes with pride and lives his life to the best of his ability. Furthermore this person can support himself on a salary regular, not government help or help from family and friends. This aspect in particular is of extreme importance to many disabled Americans. The ability to survive on their own, without having to depend on someone or some group to provide food , clothes or shelter, isn't that what we all want anyway? That's why the Americans With Disabilities Act represents the most important precedent in the fight to end discrimination against disabled people. While there will always be discrimination and prejudice against all groups in society, at least now one of these groups has the opportunity to prove themselves in an unforgiving society..
