I am interested in pursuing graduate studies in petroleum engineering due to my keen interest in the research and development of algorithms/software that we as reservoir engineers use for characterization, upscaling and reservoir simulation. I am interested in understanding and developing new techniques in reservoir simulators that would help model the complex process of subsurface hydrocarbon flow more accurately and efficiently. Having worked with reservoir simulation software, I firmly believe that a graduate program would not only complement my four years of undergraduate studies and my four years of experience in the oil industry as a reservoir engineer, but would also help me contribute significant to the field of petroleum engineering. All throughout high school, I had consistent achievement in both academics and extracurricular activities. Additionally, I have always been interested in science projects. In my high school, I had the chance to be among the top ten deserving students selected by the state for the "Youth Leadership Program in Science". It was this interest in science and mathematics that helped me crack one of the toughest engineering entrance exams in India, when I qualified through the Engineering Entrance Examination of India and opted for Petroleum Engineering from the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun, as it offered an interesting blend of earth sciences with mathematical analysis. My curiosity about petroleum engineering further increased in my first year of undergrad when I first learned about the process of hydrocarbon formation and migration until it reaches reservoir rock with a trap. At that time, I was really interested in learning about the physics that governs the multi-...... middle of paper...... I acquired the necessary skills and a strong interest in the methods involved in the geostatistical characterization of reservoirs and in Upscaling techniques. In this process, I also understood the importance of averaging input data in developing oil prospects. Having gained relevant experience in this field, I am convinced that the graduate program is the next logical step to gain knowledge and research skills to contribute to this field. Subsequently, with the application of these concepts, I would work to further refine these acquired skills and would eventually carry out in-depth research to improve the reservoir modeling and simulation process. An MS program would definitely be an asset to my career and provide me with more research opportunities. With all my sincerity and aspirations, I submit my question to your valuable consideration.
