One characteristic that may influence my career as a social worker is that I believe I am at risk of burnout. Burnout is “a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that results from constant or repeated emotional pressure associated with intense, long-term involvement with people” (Corey, 2016, p. 354). The reason I believe I am at risk for burnout is because I tend to feel overwhelmed and get discouraged very easily. These factors are associated with my mental health issues. However, as I treat my mental health issues, I also work to address and prevent these feelings. Another attribute I possess that may hinder my ability to be a good social worker is my lack of fitness to practice (Tam, 2009). Since I did not finish my studies as a social work student, I did not acquire the professional skills of a social worker. Once I finish my studies, I believe I will have the skills to improve my professional suitability to become a social worker. I believe that these two attributes that I possess may hinder my ability to become a good social person
