Growing up in an era of rapid technological advances. It can be seen almost everywhere we go. Does this make it a good thing? Well, there doesn't seem to be a way to stop it. So let's just hope it's for the best of humanity. Technology is advancing exponentially quickly. It's really hard to believe just ten years ago; people used film in cameras and played music from a compact disc containing 15-20 songs. Nowadays people take thousands of digital photos and listen to hundreds of songs from a single device that can fit in one hand. So is new technology helping the medical industry treat patients faster and more frequently than ever before? Or does it simply mean giving every child in our country a pair of square eyes and a short temper? Something as simple and commonly used as social networking sites could help drastically as scientists can stay in touch more easily. A supercomputer called "Watson" is being developed to expand the healthcare industry, and doctors will soon potentially be able to rely on it to track patients' histories, stay up to date on medical research and analyze treatment options. But it is also known that over the last 20 years the number of obese and overweight children has increased significantly. Technology and all media-based devices are some of the main contributors to this problem: they can lead to very serious health problems and in some serious cases the intervention of a psychiatrist is strongly recommended. Technology also impacts people's social lives. Personally I have made many friends through the social side of online gaming, however I'm sure that, like mine, many mums totally disapprove. I have also lost many friends to technology. Playing Call of Duty for endless hours is not... a paper medium... that's what everyone calls it; and what qualifies being a hacker? Someone who can rob your bank account in less than a minute when your naive child clicks on a link sent to you by a random person? Having had personal experiences on both "ends of the stick", I realized how interesting and at the same time dangerous things can get. Hacking has its benefits, whether it's gaining invincibility in a computer game or mocking America's defense and trying to prove the existence of aliens. However, it can be very, very serious when both life and money are at stake; So how do we stop it? Or is it too late? In conclusion, it is clear that many people believe that technology brings great, new and innovative ideas into the world. However, looking at the bigger picture, it becomes evident that dangers come into play and the ancient traditions of pen and paper fade away..
