Topic > Treatment for Rod Blagojevich - 863

The person I will focus on is Rod Blagojevich. He is the former governor of Illinois. He was born on December 10, 1956. He was the younger of two boys. His father Radisa Blagojevich, was an immigrant steel mill worker from Serbia, also a former Nazi prisoner. His mother, Millie, was a ticket taker for the Chicago Transit Authority. Rod grew up in a working-class immigrant neighborhood in Chicago. His parents never allowed him to forget his heritage and culture. In addition to English, Rod spoke Serbo-Croatian fluently. His undergraduate education began at the University of Tampa. He later enrolled at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He had to wash dishes at the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline to support himself through college. After graduation, he entered Pepperdine University Law School in Malibu, California. Some of his friends and acquaintances remember Blagojevich as a private person who did not socialize or drink. After graduation, he worked as a private sector lawyer in Chicago, Illinois. A few years later, he began working under Chicago Mayor Richard Daley's legal team. This mayor has had a few controversies of his own; he had to deal with a truck rental scandal that brought a lot of negativity to his office. Since 1972 in Chicago, over 79 current or former Chicago politicians have been found guilty or have pleaded guilty to crimes by judges, juries or their own defense Chicago-Sun Times (2006 p 7). I will explain later how the socio-cultural perspective will relate to his behavior. This perspective states that abnormal behavior is based on broad influences from that person's society and culture. In 1992, Blagojevich began his political career by beating and becoming a mem...... middle of paper ......he Celebrity Apprentice. His actions hit him very hard. His almost divine self-image will ultimately be his total downfall. His lawyers are now trying to stop him from sinking further. Treatment for Blagojevich would first require him to detail all of his crimes while in office. He must make amends to all those he has wronged. I would also sentence him to a long prison sentence and require him to attend group and personal counseling. First he must realize the depth of his behavior and the damage he has caused to his office and his city. He also needs to realize how he will be seen long after he is alive. He needs to be brought back to earth with real control of his behavior. You may also need to take some type of medication. He needs to see a psychiatrist to determine if he has a serious mental problem.
