Topic > Sustainable Development of Civil Engineering - 1029

INTRODUCTION: Civil engineering is evolving and its evolution must increase. This report attempts to place the advancement of technology and the addition of engineering into its archival background. With the growing problems plaguing the world of civil engineering and structural design, solutions must be found to protect and maintain structural forms not only in our present age but in the future to come. The main obstacle is that our current approach to progress is unsustainable. We are grossly abusing resources, generating pollution and causing species to become extinct. The need for sustainable development cannot be emphasized enough. I also intend to explain the physical and material properties of steel, the process of its production and how sustainable it is in the construction of structures. SUSTAINABILITY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: Sustainability or sustainable living is a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the competence of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable development is generally conceptualized as having three amplitudes which in most cases are seen as overlapping circles. They are: environmental, social and economic. Sustainable development involves taking on all three amplitudes and minimizing the concession made between the factors. Civil engineering plays a very significant influence on progress towards sustainable development by applying intelligence and experience to develop designs that meet human needs and solve environmental problems. However, civil engineering must contribute more to sustainable development along the entire production and consumption chain, including:• Obtaining and refining natural resources• Preparing... middle of paper... producing is energy and carbon Intense but significant progress has been made to reduce this phenomenon (Sansom 2013). Low carbon buildings and structures with a good BREEAM (Building Research Institute Environmental Assessment Method) rating are easily achievable by using steel in construction. CONCLUSION In conclusion, a world full of sustainable structures is the ultimate goal for civil engineers and structural designers. With the rapid evolution of technology, achieving this should not be a difficult feat. However, I believe there is still a lot to do, especially when it comes to using the right resources to create a cleaner, safer and more sustainable world. Resource production can also be done with a lower carbon emission rate; engineers and engineers-in-training also need to be more educated on the global trend that is sustainability.
