I don't like to talk about class, because while my family always provided for me and did their best, we definitely struggled. It's not something I want to think about if I don't have to. Mantsios also points out in his second myth that we believe most of the nation is middle class, and goes on to explain that this is simply not true. The reason we think this way is because “in the United States it is acceptable to talk about the 'middle class'” (25). Of course I assumed that most Americans were well off, or better off than the circumstances around me, because that's all they were portrayed and talked about.
