Originated in Bassano del Grappa, more than 1600 years ago, the famous Italian drink Grappa is becoming increasingly famous throughout the world. Only in the 1960s did grappa transform from a cheap provincial Italian drink into a drink known throughout the world. Traditionally made from by-products of the winemaking process (pomace): discarded pomace, seeds and stems, Grappa was considered a cheap, low-quality drink for farmers. and other lower class workers. Very similar to French Brandy and Cognac, grappa is also a distillate and can reach up to 55-60% alcohol. The main difference is that it is not distilled from the "base wine", but from the pomace. The ideal combination for producing grappa is 65% red grapes and 35% white grapes. This combination is one of the key points in making the drink taste like it did 500 years ago. Also known as “fire water,” this drink can keep you warm in the winter and get you drunk easily in the summer. Another very interesting fact is that the original Grappa brand has been protected by the EU Product Organization since 1989, as a result Grappa is produced, purchased and exported worldwide only by Italian producers. To date, the Grappa production process has been completely mechanized by large alcohol companies. Yet it takes a long time for the leftover white and red grapes to transform into a crystalline drink with an exceptional taste. So what was the original process like? As I already mentioned, Grappa is produced from the by-products of the winemaking process, or pomace, in Italian. Since this substance is very rich in sugar and contains almost 0% alcohol, the fermentation process should...... middle of paper......night particularly special holidays and celebrations dedicated to it. Nonetheless, it is still highly appreciated in wine exhibitions and competitions. Since my father works in the wine industry, I have tried quite a few drinks throughout my life at different expos around the world. To tell the truth, grappa is the tastiest among drinks with a high alcohol content. It is very sweet and at the same time quite heavy, unlike vodka or tequila which are just alcohol. The drink born in a small Italian province is today appreciated all over the world. In my opinion, to understand the true taste of the drink you need to know everything about it: its history, how it is made, how old it is and also what the bottle looks like. People who know this and understand the true meaning of alcohol consumption are very intelligent people, with very rich life experience.
