Topic > Indian Blue Peacock - 807

When you first think of eyes you think of the normal eyes that people use to see things. But you never think of an animal, not only with eyes in its head but also with feathers. Which brings me to one of the most famous peacocks, the Indian blue. There are three types of Indian blue peacocks: the peafowl (male), the hen (female), and the peafowl (pup/offspring). These Indian blue peacocks, like all other animals, belong to the largest kingdom, the animal kingdom. Like humans and other animals, they have a phylum that is chordate or has a backbone. Although these peacocks fly little, and when they do so only to escape predators and climb to high places. They belong to the Aves class which translates to birds. Peacocks along with turkeys, pheasants and quail are all commonly known as Galiformes of the family Phasianidae. The genus name of all peacocks is Pavo which translates to peacock. The species name for these birds is Pavo Cristatus which, again, means peacock and crested. The common name of this bird is the Indian blue peacock (Indian Peacock, 2011). These Indian blue peacocks are one of the most amazing birds in the world, there are many physical traits, habitats and interesting facts about these peacocks. The Indian Blue Peacock The peacock is a swan-sized bird with a long, thin neck and a train between 1.4 and 1.6 m long. Indian Blues are most famous for the male's extravagant tail, also known as a train. The train is where all the peacock feathers are found when they are not trying to find a mate. The train makes up about 60% of the peacock's body length. The train is covered in blue-green feathers, each adorned with an eye at the end of each feather. The plumage is also an iridescent blue-green color... in the center of the card... the female doesn't look the same. They have dull colors to help them camouflage themselves while protecting the nest and chicks. The chicks also share their mother's dull color to hide from lurking predators. Indian blue peacocks are such exquisite birds that it is shocking to know that they are not in danger of extinction. I thought people would surely catch them and stuff them, and then send them to museums. But it's nice to know that this isn't the case. Even though Indian Blues never originated in North America, they are still well known throughout the world and are very interesting creatures. The reason I researched this animal is because when I was a child I was always afraid of them, but I was always amazed by how cute they were. Now that I'm older and have studied peacocks, I think they are adorable and there is nothing to be afraid of.
