Despite all the progress women have made in education, employment, and leadership, rates of violence and harassment have not improved significantly in recent decades (Beeby, 2015 ). China was selected because it is an emerging world leader and history has shown that “smaller” countries tend to imitate the culture of the leading country. It is therefore important to observe how this country is responding to incidents of domestic violence. However, it is a good step forward that China is developing its first national law on domestic violence (BBC News, 2015).
