Offering is a word and an action that many of us would be familiar with. But what does it offer and what does it do? It is a word that is often linked to giving. Yes, offering is giving, but not all giving is actually offering. The Bible has a lot to say about offering. If you search the New King James Bible (NKJ), the term offering appears more than 500 times! The offering is the way the Divinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) lives. The offering produces life. In fact, this is how all life is produced. The offering is love expressed. The offering is the economy of God. The offering is the act of a heart that "seeks first the kingdom of God". In all of this there was one word that really spoke to me lately. The offering is how we gain testimony before God. This means that this is how we actually discover who we truly are and who we are not. This is how God 'remembers' us. God has placed this desire in all humanity: the desire to know who we are and to be remembered. We find this through the offering. The first time the word 'offering' appears is in Genesis 4:3 where we read of 2 offerings; one brought by Cain and one by his brother Abel. These men were the first two sons of Adam and Eve. Gen 4:3-5 And it came to pass as time passed, that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the earth unto the Lord. Abel also brought the firstlings of his flock and their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but he did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his face was gloomy. In this interaction we see that both Cain and Abel brought an offering to God but for some reason God respected Abel's offering and not Cain's. In Hebrews we read this: Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered a more excellent sacrifice to God than...... middle of paper......was trying to tell me this. It was during this time that I heard the word “seek first the kingdom.” When I heard this word, I cried out to God for the first time in my life to remember me. It was here that I made a vow to the Lord in faith that I would find remembrance. As I made this vow and fulfilled it, the Lord opened doors for me that I can truly say would not have opened if I had not responded to the word to 'seek first the kingdom.' During that time, the Lord blessed me financially, led me to buy a home, and healed my anxious heart. It was here that I began to find testimony before God through offering. This is something I'm still discovering today. Be encouraged that as you seek the Kingdom first and heartily offer yourself to know Him and His plan for your life, you actually commit to God and He remembers you. You find your testimonial and your name through the offer.
