Ethnicity of PlagiarismWhat do you do when you receive a five-page paper due next week or even a month from the assigned date? Do you work on the assignment as soon as you get it or put it off until the evening it's due? Most high school and college students wait until that evening to work on the paper, while others will work on it as soon as they get out of class or school for the day. Waiting until the last minute will save you time in putting the thought and hard work into the grade you may deserve. Most will copy and paste certain material just to get it done faster. However, this act of taking it and passing it off as your own and also not citing the source is called plagiarism. (“Merriam-webster,” 2014)The Honor CodePlagiarism has an honor code at most universities. The honor code is simply made up of numerous lists of codes deemed morally right and how students should behave. The Honor Code was introduced at all universities to empower students to become productive learners and ward off academic dishonesty. (“Wikipedia: Code of Honor,” 2013). We should all uphold the honor code not just because it is the right thing to do, but because it is easy and morally right to do. We have the honor code at universities and colleges because it helps ensure that the original authors of the source keep their work and are credited for it. Penalty for Academic Dishonesty Most, if not all colleges and universities, have procedures for disciplining students for the act of stealing one's work. Glenville State College will remove the student from that specific class until further notice. If found guilty, the student will receive a fail for the class or no credit on his or her transcript. (Glenville State College, 64 years old)...... middle of the paper ......or do you think he plagiarized his essay or deceived his partner to get the license? Scary, huh? Conclusion After researching and learning surprising facts about plagiarism, plagiarism is not worth my grade or my future. It amazes me how many other students do the same thing. I also didn't realize that plagiarism is serious not only at my school but across America. Students should try to make time to do their work and stay focused on school and not procrastinate. We can all help keep the honor code at the highest level by teaching and making students aware of the consequences of doing so. Plagiarism is not only morally wrong but it means stealing someone else's work and making it your own. It's like taking a twenty dollar bill out of someone's wallet without them knowing and calling it yours. What if it happened to you??
