Manchester DBQDuring the nineteenth century, Manchester, England, became an increasingly industrialized city and its population increased considerably. Although the industrialization of Manchester was extremely successful in modernizing the society, the growth of Manchester also raised many problems in the society. Many different problems arose due to the industrialization of Manchester; however the conditions of industrialization were viewed differently by different people. Some wrote and spoke positively about the effects of industrialization, especially in reference to the improvement of working conditions and medicine, others wrote about social issues underlining the degradation of civilization, others wrote about the health problems that accompanied population growth and industrialization, including decreased lifespan and increased malnutrition. There have been many different reactions to the effects that have accompanied Manchester's growth due to factors such as increasing population density and decreasing air quality, most people have written negatively about the effects of Manchester's growth largely due to the decreased quality of life, however there are There were some people writing positively about the changes, these were mostly people who would benefit from saying positive things about Manchester's growth. Some people conveyed the idea that the effects of Manchester's growth were positive. Thomas B. Macaulay, a Liberal MP, stated that “people are living longer” and attributed that longevity to people being fed, clothed, and housed (Doc. 3). Macaulay also stated that the improvements are “due to the national increase in wealth produced by the manufacturing system” (doc3). He also compared a cottage to a factor......paper measures..., so it's possible he could have compared some of the outliers with a high life expectancy in Manchester to make his conditions seem worse and, in turn, support health measures in Manchester. The people who wrote about Manchester's sanitary problems during the 19th century were most likely not very biased in writing about the degradation of the human condition in Manchester. There were many different reactions to the changes that accompanied Manchester's growth and industrialisation. Some people were all for the growth and development of Manchester, while others were strongly against it. People who were against Manchester's development often cited health and social issues as reasons, while people in favor were usually biased towards making it look good and had reasons to support Manchester's growth as its own greatest wealth..
