Databases are created to manage large amounts of information by storing, retrieving, entering, and managing that information. Databases are set up so that a set of software programs provides all users with access to all data. A simple database is usually designed in normalized tables to minimize redundancy and optimize write operations to the table. This can be achieved by dividing large tables into smaller tables and less redundant tables, so that data of the same type is isolated in one place so that additions, deletions and modifications of a field can be made in just one table .
