Topic > The Media and Teen Pregnancy - 1050

Today I will talk about how the writers and creators of a TV commercial and a newspaper article influence us on their opinion by writing as they do. The topic I am studying is teenage pregnancy. This topic will always be in the media for several reasons and occasionally you hear about the story of a young girl who got pregnant due to unsafe sex. There will always be problems with this topic within society because so many people have different opinions and views on this topic and whether it is right or wrong or not. Different texts, stories, documentaries and videos all show teenage pregnancy as wrong and irresponsible because the child's parents are in financial difficulty, socially disadvantaged or simply too underdeveloped to carry and hold a baby. For my two texts I compare a newspaper article from the Daily Telegraph written by Clare Masters and a video I found on YouTube originally from the site “hey-babe”. The video was created by the company "hey-babe" and was found and published at the end of 2009. The article is from December 14, 2008. The video and the newspaper article are more or less the same because they both lead at the same conclusion, the viewer ends up thinking about himself and other people. The video and the article provide both the point of view of each party, the doctor and the health journalist, as well as the point of view of a teenager. In addition to having one main text, the newspaper article, I have two supporting texts and they both come from doctors' websites. I am using them to support my main text and assist me with additional information. The editorial writing; from the Daily Telegraph uses rigorous rhetorical techniques because it is a newspaper article and must be persuasive and opinion-forming. Rhetorical techniques are used to make a piece of writing effective and more insightful, and there are several ways to do this. This article uses a large amount of evidence and examples because it provides statistics, a personal case, and an issue that affected a person's life. The article mainly talks about the risks of teenage pregnancy, which is not only harmful to the mother and father but can also affect the mental side of a teenager. The risks are greater for a pregnant minor and it is almost guaranteed that there will be serious complications at birth for both the newborn and the mother..
