Imagination is a concept used in almost all forms of literature. He is held in high regard especially by writers of the Romantic era. Writers of this era, such as Worth, Coleridge, and Keats, greatly influenced those of later periods, such as the Victorian period. This can be seen, for example, in the novel Jane Eyre; although it was written and based heavily on the ideals of Victorian writers, it still retains the influences of the Romantics, particularly the power of the imagination. Williamworth's view on imagination can easily be seen in the two poems Exposition & Reply and The Tables Turned. In these two short poems Worth respects the sciences; he does not despise them. However, he argues that to ignore nature, and by extension, imagination, would be to ignore part of what it means to be human. Another poem, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, shows Worth's appreciation for the imagination, as he reflects on the joy of being able to look within and see the beauty of nature as he sees it, not as science sees it.
