Nearly 35% of US adults are obese and 34% are overweight (nichd.nih.gov, 1). Anyone who is more than 100 pounds overweight is considered obese (nlm.nih.gov, 1). It is proven that obese people have a high probability of developing a food addiction. Food affects the systems in the brain that control feelings of reward, which is what causes addiction (Kenney, 7). Since most people in the world who are obese or overweight are addicted to food, the government should try to stop fast food chains because people who already eat poorly have no self-control or will power before everyone in the world follows their path and ruins theirs
