Topic > Saint Thomas More - 1212

Thomas More was born on 7 February 1478 in London. As a child he was taken to the church compound. There the priest instantly exorcised him and immediately baptized him "to obtain eternal grace through spiritual regeneration" (Ackroyd). As a child, Thomas served the archbishop by running errands and carrying messages. He went to school at Oxford and studied public affairs. He was very determined to become a monk and disciplined himself to live and become a monk. Thomas also wrote plays as a young man and spent most of his time in Greek and Latin literature. In addition to mastering all this, he also mastered French, history and mathematics. Around 1494 he returned to London and went to school at the New Inn and became a student of law there. Thomas More dedicated all his poems, plays and literary works to Pico Della Mirandola. His first book "Adagiorum Collectanea", which is the last and ninth volume of proverbs, was published around February 1500 by Erasmus (Ackroyd). The first selection of classic adages and proverbs ever printed.published has been announced. It was published in 1516 and written in Latin. It is a perfect society of religion and daily customs. All this was tearing him apart because since he was little he wanted t...... middle of paper ......ct. He did not consider the cutting of his head from his body a circumstance which should produce a change in the disposition of his mind." Written by Addison in Spectator (No.349) (http://www.newadvent.org /cathen/14689c.htm ) The beheading took place outside Tower Hill on 6 July 1535 and the remainder of the body was buried in the church of St Peter Ad Vincula Thomas More was formally beatified by Pope Leo XIII, 29 December 1886. He was also canonised by Pope Pius XI in 1935 . Thomas' poems, books and plays are still used to this day. In my opinion, he stood up for what was right and lived to be very Christ-like.
