The impact of EU migration policies on African countries The European Union (EU) has established definitive migration objectives which have been constantly strengthened through migration policy (Reslow, 2012). While the EU continues to work to improve migration policies, Reslow argues that this is often done without a clear understanding of the policies' impact on nations with citizens seeking to migrate. Deficits in knowledge regarding the impact of migration policies on other nations limit the ability of European Union officials to change, alter, and improve migration policies (Reslow, 2012). Therefore, without efforts to examine the impact of EU migration policies on specific countries, the European Union will continue to lack essential knowledge that could be useful for achieving migration policy goals (Reslow, 2012). It is clear that there is a clear drive to better understand the impact of EU migration policies on different countries. Access to data regarding the impact of EU migration policies appears to have significant implications for improving those policies and creating a basis for the European Union to achieve its migration objectives (Reslow, 2012). The case of African countries and the impact of EU migration policies on these entities are of particular concern. As reported by Castles (2009), the EU's migration policies towards African nations represent something of a quagmire. Specifically, this author argues, "measures taken by the European Union and its member states are often designed to reduce [population flows from Africa], often in the form of well-intentioned development policies" (p.1) . in this… half of the paper… the observation of Africans seeking to emigrate to the EU would come directly from surveys completed by those willing to participate in the study. Finally, if a quantitative study to evaluate the results Regarding migration were used to answer the research questions, it would be necessary to access official data held by the European Union, Member States and African nations. Specifically, the researcher should collect data regarding the number of migration applications, the number of completed and accepted applications, as well as the estimated number of undocumented African migrations that occur each year. Obtaining data regarding undocumented migration can be difficult given the nature of these events and the reluctance of many to discuss them. Therefore, sources of information for qualitative study and quantitative investigation would be much easier to obtain.
