Throughout Tolkien's career as a writer his motivations for writing changed. Originally most of his writings were intended for a very limited audience. To be precise, The Hobbit was created for an audience made up of his four children. Many of the works published posthumously are written for his children. A whole series of letters called The Father Christmas Letters were letters written as Father Christmas by Tolkien to his children. He, as a father, wanted to create joy and happiness in his children through his writing. Later in his career Tolkien became angry. He realized that most of the great cultures around him had great mythology, but his beloved Britain was devoid of myths. In what was later adapted, edited and published by his son Christopher Tolkien, the stories of The Silmarillion and The Book of Lost Tales were created to create a myth for the British people. Although they were never accepted as tales for his country, they are included as tales to promote the Legendarium that Tolkien had created. Through his stories Tolkien was able to create a feeling of mystery and wonder that remained imprinted in the minds of his millions of readers and created a modern fantasy for what it is today. Tolkien's effect on society is much greater than many would expect... . half of the sheet ......gons is half based on Tolkien's Legendarium. Until they were exposed, they had hobbits who were good as thieves, like Bilbo in The Hobbit, and balrogs. Tolkien created a world where millions of people can escape. He wrote stories that expand and capture the mind as you follow the company or as you learn Bilbo's next action. He created a rich history about his world, creating myths as if the world he created had existed for millennia. He created the Hobbits and the Dwarves. Tolkien brought mystery and magic to the world stage, and that's why he deserves the title "father of modern fantasy”.”.
